Coprolites (fossilised poop)

R18.00

Coprolites are the fossilised faeces of animals that lived millions of years ago. They are trace fossils meaning not of the animal’s actual body. They give evidence for the animal’s behaviour (in this case, diet) rather than morphology.
It is difficult to find out exactly what animal produced a now-coprolite, however, as fossils of the animal’s body are not usually found in the same places as the fossil faeces.
They are surprisingly colourful and completely odourless!

Each piece is approximately 3cm in size with a weight of 15 grams.
